CirNaTex – Liquid Soil BG
CirNaTex – Flowable Soil BG develops holistic, sustainable solutions for pipeline routes using flowable soil technology and dredged material. The focus is on new processes and materials that enable the use of previously unused quantities of dredged material while simultaneously reducing the ecological footprint in civil engineering. Biodegradable geotextiles and recyclable flowable soil are combined into an integrated overall system.
Project overview
Challenge
The expansion of district heating and electricity transmission lines increases the need for sustainable and economically viable civil engineering solutions. At the same time, large quantities of excavated material are generated, for which new, high-quality recycling methods are required.
Project goal
The aim is to develop a holistic system consisting of recyclable liquid soil, suitable dredged material formulations and biodegradable geotextiles for sustainable pipeline routes.
Practical relevance
The developed methods should be directly usable for applications in civil engineering and take into account the entire life cycle of the infrastructure – from the production to the recycling of the material used.
Our role in the research project
M&S Umweltprojekt is responsible for sub-project 3: Development of the overall system for the production of fully recyclable liquid soil with dredged material.
Our development tasks include:
Sampling and analysis procedures for dredged material:
Development of standardized methods for evaluating and categorizing dredged material with regard to its suitability for flowable fill production. Among other things, particle size distribution, organic content, pollutant load, and mineralogical composition are examined.Sampling strategy:
Development of a representative sampling methodology for dredged material, based on the principles of LAGA PN 98.Chemical analysis of the dredged material water:
Analysis of floating water and pore water with the aim of using existing water as directly as possible for the production of liquid soil.Standard formulas for liquid soil:
Development of optimal mixing ratios of dredged material, water, binders and additives for quality-assured production.Property optimization:
Development of a property matrix for the targeted adaptation of handling, stability and environmental compatibility for different structural applications.Recycling workflow:
Development of a process for the treatment and reuse of solidified liquid soil with the aim of closing material cycles and reducing construction waste.
